Creation Day 5: Fish & Birds Enrichment

We decided to learn about the days of creation this summer with fun cooking, arts, and field trips. Today we learned day 5 of creation when God created the creatures of the sea and the birds of the air in Genesis 1:20-23.

Genesis 1:20-23

Then God said, “Let waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird- each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.

Days of Creation Coloring Book

I printed out the Days of Creation Coloring Book and stapled it together for the kids. Today we colored the Day 5: Fish & Birds page in the book.

Sea Creature Jell-O

Make blue Jell-O and add a gummy sea creature like fish, sharks, or octopus.

Bird Nest Brownie

Ingredients:

• ½  cup butter or margarine, melted
• 1 cups sugar
• 1/2 cup baking cocoa
• 2 eggs
• ½  cup flour
• Cupcake liners
• Chocolate Icing
• Shredded Coconut
• Jelly Beans

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a bowl, mix the margarine, sugar and cocoa.
3. Add the eggs and mix well.
4. Stir in flour; mix well.
5. Grease a cupcake pan or add cupcake liners.
6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the brownies test done with a wooden pick. Cool in pan.
7. Last add the icing and dip it in the shredded coconut. Then add the Jelly Beans for the bird eggs.

Bubble Wrap Sea Creatures

Supplies:

• White Paper
• Bubble Wrap
• Sharpie
• Scissors
• Large paint brushes
• Paint

Directions:

1. Draw a sea creature outline on the flat side of your bubble wrap. We drew starfish, octopus, and a circle for a sea turtle or blowfish.
2. Cut out your bubble wrap shape, being careful not to pop the bubbles.
3. Paint the bubble side of your bubble wrap and press it on your paper.
4. Use more paint to add to your sea creature underwater scene.

Aquarium Field Trip

We went to the St. Louis Aquarium for our fish field trip today.
