The girls had fun learning about ostriches today. They enjoyed painting and lots of counting games. We got our recourses for today from the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Ostrich Science
- We read from the Abeka Preschool Language Development Cards to learn more ostriches.
- We learned more about ostriches by watching Wild Kratt Ostriches are Very Powerful Birds.
- She also did her Ostrich page from her Abeka Letters & Sounds for 3’s book.
- We reviewed all of the sounds we have learned so far with the Abeka Alphabet Flashcards.
- Then we studied the Ostrich Life Cycle poster to review that birds lay eggs.

Ostrich Writing
- The girls each had a similar writing paper for the letter O. My 3 year old had a capital O and lowercase o with tracing arrows, along with an ostrich to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added a short poem and more tracing O’s and o’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

o is for ostrich
I printed this o is for ostrich Craft onto cardstock for the girls to paint. I cut out the lower case “o” for them to paint gray. After that dried they glued it to a piece of brown construction paper. Then I cut out the head, legs, and tail for them to glue on.

Ostrich Science
- The girls each had a similar number 8 paper for counting otters. My 3 year old had the number 8 with tracing arrows, along with a helpful poem, and 8 ostriches to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added more tracing 8’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Ostrich Ten Frame
- I printed out the Ostrich Ten Frame game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then she would tell me what the number is on the Mommy ostrich’s sign. Then she counted out the correct number of chicks to add to the ten frame.

Ostrich Worksheets
- She likes making patterns, so I found this Feather Pattern worksheet for her to complete.
- I printed out these How Many Babies papers. They cut out the numbers at the bottom of the paper and then counted the baby ostriches and glued the correct number under each row of chicks.
- Then she sorted the Left and Right Chicks, by cutting them out and placing them in the proper column.

Ostrich Books
- I’m an Ostrich by Casey Harrison
- Three Cheers for Ostrich! by Francesca Simon
- Oh, Ollie Ostrich! by Shayna Marshall
My “o” Book
I read the My “o” Book by Jane Belk Moncure to the girls too. An astronaut helps Little a in the book.
