Baby Sea Otters

The girls had fun learning about otters today. They enjoyed making a baby sea otter and painting. We got our recourses for today from the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Otter Science

I read the letter O from the Abeka Animal Friends Flashcards to learn more about the bees. We watched Oscar Otter Song to go with the card.
We learned more about bees by watching this Animals for Kids Sea Otter video.
She also did her Otter page from her Abeka Letters & Sounds for 3’s book.
She completed a baby otter craft page from her Abeka Arts and Crafts with Button Bear book.
We reviewed all of the sounds we have learned so far with the Abeka Alphabet Flashcards.
We reviewed the Otter Life Cycle poster and then the girls pretended to be baby otters.

Otter Writing

The girls each had a similar writing paper for the letter O. My 3 year old had a capital O and lowercase o with tracing arrows, along with an otter to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added a short poem and more tracing O’s and o’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

We learned that the mother otters wrap their babies in kelp to keep them from floating away so we made this cute craft. They used their water colors to paint the baby otters and then we taped green and yellow crepe paper to the back. We used the crepe paper as the kelp and wrapped it around their bellies.

Six Otters

The girls each had a similar number 6 paper for counting otters. My 3 year old had the number 6 with tracing arrows, along with a helpful poem, and 6 otters to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added more tracing 6’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Otter Counting

I printed out the Otter Counting activity and then cut the pieces and laminated the pieces. She counted the sea shells as she fed them to the otter as she reviewed her numbers.

Otter Worksheets

She also Helped the Otters win the Race by tracing the curvy lines.
Then she practiced her cutting with her Order Otters by Size paper. She glued them on in the order by their size.
