National September Food Holidays

September 1- Tues

September 2- Wed- National Blueberry Popsicle Day

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint Blueberries
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup almond milk

Directions:

  1. Blend everything together in the Smoothie Blender.
  2. Pour the mixture into the Popsicle Molds and freeze over night.

September 3- Thurs

September 4- Fri- National Macadamia Nut Day (White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies)

Ingredients:

  • 10 TBS butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 TBS vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 teas baking soda
  • 1/2 teas salt
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup macadamia nuts

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a cookie sheet.
  2. Cream together one ingredient at a time combing well.
  3. Scoop 2 tablespoonfuls at a time on the cookie sheet.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes and let cool on sheet.

September 5- Sat- National Cheese Pizza Day

Ingredients:

  • 2 teas sugar
  • 1 teas dry active yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm water (105 degrees)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teas salt
  • 2 TBS olive oil
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Mozzarella Cheese

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar and warm water. Then sprinkle with yeast and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add in the flour, salt, and olive oil and mix with dough hook in electric mixer.
  3. Once it is well mixed knead for 5 minutes.
  4. Divide dough into 2 pieces and place into an oiled pizza pan. Cover and let it rise for and hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 475 degrees and roll out dough.
  6. Spread the pizza sauce and cheese then bake for 12-15 minutes.

September 6- Sun

September 7- Mon- National Salami Day

We made a simple salami and cheese sandwich today.

September 8- Tues- National Nut Bread Day

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 TBS baking powder
  • 1/2 tea salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Ferenheit. Grease and flour 1 bread pan.
  2. Add ingredients 1 at a time to the electric mixer.
  3. Mix well before pouring into the bread pan.
  4. bake for 50-60 minutes.

September 9- Wed- National “I Love Food” Day

September 10- Thurs- National Ants on a Log Day

We all love celery with peanut butter and raisins!

September 11- Fri- National Hot Cross Buns Day

I used the recipe from MaklyaCreates Blog.

September 12- Sat- National Chocolate Milkshake Day

I mixed chocolate ice cream and milk in my smoothie blender, then I added whipped topping and chocolate syrup.

September 13- Sun- International Chocolate Day

We just went to Walmart and got lots of chocolate baked good and Hershey’s to snack on for the day… the kids loved it!

September 14- Mon- National Black and White Cookie Day

I used the Black and White Cookie recipe from Betty Crocker website. But we only added icing to the black side and left the plain cookie for the white side.

September 15- Tues-National Cheese Toast Day

I toasted the bread in the toaster and then brushed on melted butter with garlic salt in it. I baked them at 400 degrees for 5 minutes flipping halfway though and also adding Parmesan cheese when I flipped them. We had it with spaghetti and Caesar salad.

September 16- Wed- National Guacamole Day

Ingredients:

  • 3 avacados
  • 1 lime
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/4 cup salsa

Directions:

  1. Take out the avocados pit and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  2. Mush up the avocado flesh and squeeze lime juice into it.
  3. Add the garlic salt and salsa, and mix well.

September 17- Thurs-National Apple Dumpling Day

I used the Apple Dumpling recipe from the No Dash of Gluten blog. They were a big hit with everyone in the family (unusual for a family of 6).

September 18- Fri- National Cheeseburger Day

We love burgers, we love them grilled, broiled, and fried!

September 19- Sat- National Butterscotch Pudding Day

Butterscotch pudding was something new for the little girls, but the teen boys liked it.

September 20- Sun- National String Cheese Day

We always keep string cheese in the house, so this one was easy!

September 21- Mon

September 22- Tues- National Ice Cream Cone Day

We like the chocolate Drumsticks.

September 23- Wed- National Snack Stick Day

We tried an off brand of beef sticks from Sams. They were not popular!

September 24- Thurs- National Cherry Jubilee Day

I used the Apple Dumpling recipe from The Gingham Apron blog.

September 25- Fri- National Quesadilla Day

We make all kinds of quesadilla at our house, today we had ground turkey and black beans and fiesta cheese of course.

September 26- Sat- National Pancake Day (Buttermilk Pancakes)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 6 TBS melted butter
  • 2 eggs

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients well.
  2. Heat skillet to medium heat under 300 degrees.
  3. Lightly grease and add 1/2 cup scoops to the pan and wait for the bubbles to appear.
  4. Flip once you see bubbles over the whole pancake.
  5. Grill on the second side for another minute or two.

September 27- Sun- National Chocolate Milk Day

Chocolate milk is a favorite for the kiddos too.

September 28- Mon- National Strawberry Cream Pie Day

Ingredients:

  • 9 inch graham crust
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 1/2 cups strawberries

Directions:

  1. Slice the strawberries and sprinkle sugar.
  2. Mix together the cream cheese and powder sugar with an electric mixer.
  3. In a separate bowl whisk the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese.
  5. Place the cream into the pie crust and top with strawberries.
  6. Chill for 3 hours.

September 29- Tues- National Hug a Vegetarian Day
