The girls had fun learning about yaks today. They had fun with painting and games. We got our recourses for today from the Y is for Yak, Yarn, & Yogurt Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Yak Science
- I read the letter Y from the Abeka Animal Friends Flashcards to learn more about the yaks. We watched Yackety Yak Song to go with the card.
- We learned more about bees by watching this Discovering the Secrets of the Yak video.
- She also did her Yak page from her Abeka Letters & Sounds for 3’s book.
- She counted 9 yaks with her Abeka Numbers and Skills with Button Bear book.
- They really enjoyed the yak craft from her Abeka Arts and Crafts with Button Bear book.
- We reviewed all of the sounds we have learned so far with the Abeka Alphabet Flashcards.
- Then we watched the Wild Kratts Powerful Animals.

Yak Writing
- The girls each had a similar writing paper for the letter Y. My 3 year old had a capital Y and lowercase y with tracing arrows, along with a yak to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added a short poem and more tracing Y’s and y’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the Y is for Yak, Yarn, & Yogurt Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Y is for Yak
- I printed this y is for Yak Craft onto cardstock for the girls to paint. I cut out the lower case “y” for them to paint brown. After that dried they glued it to a piece of yellow construction paper. Then I cut out the face and horns for them to glue on.

Ten Yaks
- The girls each had a similar number 10 paper for counting yaks. My 3 year old had the number 10 with tracing arrows, along with a helpful poem, and 10 yaks to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added more tracing 10’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the Y is for Yak, Yarn, & Yogurt Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Yak Worksheets
- Then she practiced her cutting with her Order Yaks by Size paper. She glued them on in the order by their size.
- I printed out the Yak Shape Puzzle and then cut the pieces for her. Then she reviewed her shapes as she matched them up to the yak and glued them in place.

Yak Ten Frame
- I printed out the Yak Ten Frame game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then she would tell me what the number is on the Daddy yak’s sign. Then she counted out the correct number of babies to add to the ten frame.

Yak Puzzle
- I printed out the Yak Puzzle on cardstock and then laminated it so that we can use it over and over again. Then she got to put together the yak.

Yak Books
- There’s a Yak in My Bed by K. Pluta
- One Yak Called Jack by Darcia LaBrosse
- The Littlest Yak by Lu Fraser
AlphaTales
- We read the Y book in our AlphaTales collection. The girls really enjoy these funny phonetic stories.
