This Gentle Classical Homeschool outline is for preschool and Kindergarten age children (3-5 years). We spend about 10-15 minutes daily on each of the following lessons depending on how interested the kids are.
For Classical Christian Education the preschool years (ages 2 to 5) are designed to prepare a child’s heart, mind, and body through sensory experience and imitation. It prioritizes purposeful play and wonder rather than rigid, early academics.
Charlotte Mason did not advocate for formal academics before age six. Instead, the preschool years focus on habit training, outdoor life, and rich experiences
Bible – Classical Christian Education
- In the young years focuses on good habit formation.
- Utilizes a young child’s natural ability to absorb information by reciting simple Bible verses, character statements, catechisms, or songs.
Bible – Charlotte Mason
- The Bible is a living book with many stories that young children can enjoy and learn from.
- Focus on instilling habits like immediate obedience, truthfulness, kindness, and neatness.
- We use the Abeka Bible Picture Curriculum. We learn the Old Testament in the fall, the birth of Christ in December, and the New Testament in the Spring.
- We learn sing song Bible verses together.
- We also sing a hymn each day.
- We focus on character development with habit training throughout each day.
Language Arts – Classical Christian Education
- Prioritizes a rich language experience with high-quality living picture books.
- Surrounds children with nursery rhymes, poetry, fairy tales, and fables to build a vast vocabulary and clean grammar.
Language Arts – Charlotte Mason
- Read living books; high-quality literature with rich vocabulary, beautiful illustrations, and engaging stories.

- For language arts we are using Masterbooks Foundations Phonics book to learn letter sounds and phonics.
- For classical literature, memorization, and copywork we enjoy our Mother Goose units that are also sold in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
- We also enjoy reading many books from my Kindergarten Living Book List.
- We use A Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson to get some exposure to children’s poems.
Math – Classical Christian Education
- Early math mirrors the classical view of an orderly, beautiful universe. It trains young minds to observe concrete truths, recognize shapes and rhythms, and develop disciplined habits of thought before moving to abstract logic.
Math – Charlotte Mason
- Children learn through real-life tasks. Baking, gardening, and simple household chores build confidence and motor skills.
- Classic tales by Beatrix Potter, Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne, and standard nursery rhymes.

- We learn numbers and counting using my free Teachers Pay Teachers Free Number Activities.
- We use Masterbooks Math Lessons for a Living Education Kindergarten book.
- We also practice the calendar, weather, and seasons daily.
Science – Classical Christian Education
- Treats active play, exploration, and time in nature as essential cognitive development tools rather than mere downtime.
Science – Charlotte Mason
- Several hours outside daily in all weather. Children learn science naturally by observing birds, weather, and changing seasons.
- We are enjoying our Preschool Apologia Science book. It reads like a living book giving a gentle exposure of science for littles.
- We also loved the Good and the Beautiful Sparks and Stars science lessons for littles.
Enrichment Studies – Classical Christian Education
- Focuses heavily on “gymnastic” training—meaning physical coordination, manners, obedience, attentiveness, and bodily self-discipline.
- Music is taught to cultivate the child’s soul, train the ear for language, and instill an early sense of order, rhythm, and beauty.
Enrichment Studies – Charlotte Mason
- Art ideas are watercolors, drawing, and modeling clay.
- Familiarize children with great artists and their works, fostering a “mind gallery” with picture studies.
- We like the Music with Lindsey lessons on You Tube.
- We also do one of the Good and the Beautiful Exercises for Kids each day.
- We also do the Good and the Beautiful Finger Painting. This course is a high light for the kids when we bring it out.
