P is for Penguin (preschool)

The girls had fun learning about penguins today. They enjoyed painting and experimenting. We got our recourses for today from the P is for Penguin, Panda, Police Officer Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Penguin Science

Penguin Writing

  • The girls each had a similar writing paper for the letter P. My 3 year old had a capital P and lowercase p with tracing arrows, along with an penguin to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added a short poem and more tracing P’s and p’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the P is for Penguin, Panda, Police Officer Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

P is for Penguin

  • I printed this P is for Penguin Craft onto cardstock for the girls to paint. I cut out the capital “P” for them to paint black. After that dried they glued it to a piece of blue construction paper. Then I cut out the belly, beak and eye for them to glue on.

Six Penguins

  • The girls each had a similar number 6 paper for counting penguins. My 3 year old had the number 6 with tracing arrows, along with a helpful poem, and 6 octopuses to color. The 5 year old had the same paper, but added more tracing 6’s on the bottom. I found both of these in the P is for Penguin, Panda, Police Officer Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Fish Shapes

  • I printed out the  Fish Shape Matching game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. She reviewed each shape as she matched up the shape on the fish with the matching shape on the penguin belly.

Penguin Iceberg Math

  • I got the girls these cut little penguins and froze some ice in a shallow bowl. We placed water and the iceberg in the baking pans. She used her wooden math numbers to make a simple addition problem. Then she put some penguins on 1 iceberg and the the rest of the penguins on the second iceberg.

Penguin Color Matching

  • I printed out the  Penguin Color Matching game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. She reviewed each color as she matched up the colored penguin with the matching colored igloo.

Penguin Number Order

  • I printed out the Penguin Number Order paper. Then she cut the number penguins apart and glue them in the proper order above.

The girls had fun learning about octopuses today. They enjoyed painting, playdough and our octopus experiment. We got our recourses for today from the O is for Otter, Octopus, Ostrich Teachers Pay Teachers pack.

Octopus Science

Octopus Experiment

  • Then we tried an experiment to see how an octopus can fit through small spaces since they have no bones. We drew an octopus on a gallon size plastic bag and then we put water and red food coloring in it. It feels soft like jello since there are no bones.
  • I cut a one inch hole in a paper bowl and colored the bottom of the bowl black to look like a rock or a cave.
  • The girl did not think that the octopus bag would fit into the hole and fit in the bowl cave. Little by little they squished the bag through the hole and it all got through.

  • I printed out the Octopus Puzzle on cardstock and then laminated it so that we can use it over and over again. Then she got top put together the octopus.

  • I printed out the Octopus Color Match game, and cut them out. I laminated them and the cut them again. Then we turned them all upside down and took turns flipping to try to find matching colors. They enjoyed this game, and did great taking turns.

Ostrich Ten Frame

  • I printed out the Ostrich Ten Frame game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then she would tell me what the number is on the Mommy ostrich’s sign. Then she counted out the correct number of chicks to add to the ten frame.

Ostrich Worksheets

  • She likes making patterns, so I found this Feather Pattern worksheet for her to complete.
  • I printed out these How Many Babies papers. They cut out the numbers at the bottom of the paper and then counted the baby ostriches and glued the correct number under each row of chicks.
  • Then she sorted the Left and Right Chicks, by cutting them out and placing them in the proper column.

Baby Sea Otters

  • We learned that the mother otters wrap their babies in kelp to keep them from floating away so we made this cute craft. They used their water colors to paint the baby otters and then we taped green and yellow crepe paper to the back. We used the crepe paper as the kelp and wrapped it around their bellies.

Nut Science

Painted Hand Acorn

  • We painted their hands brown and then placed them on the paper. After they dried, we drew an acorn hat and colored it brown.

Counting Nuts

  • I printed out the Counting Squirrels game and then cut the pieces and laminated the pieces. She counted the out some acorns as she fed them to the squirrels as she reviewed her numbers.

Seven Nuts

  • The girls each had a similar number 7 paper for counting nuts. My 3 year old had the number 7 with tracing arrows, along with a helpful poem, and 7 nuts to color. Acorn Shape Puzzles

  • I printed out the Acorn Shape Matching game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then the girls took turns making a match as they told me the color and shape that was on the acorn.

Nut Worksheets

  • We did the I Spy the Letter N or n with a dot dauber.
  • Next we cut the nuts to complete the Nut Pattern page. She points to the first nut and says it out loud, then she moves to the next nut. She continues this until she gets to the last nut and then she can usually guess the next nut correctly.
  • I printed out these How Many Nuts papers. They cut out the numbers at the bottom of the paper and then counted the nuts and glued the correct number under each row of nuts.

  • I printed off the Nurse Clipboard Chart for the girls to play nurse with their baby dolls. They loved looking at the chart and then checking their baby and marking their charts.

Nurse Tool Matching

  • I printed out the Nurse Tool Matching cut and glue page for her to practice with her scissors.

Nurse’s Bag 10 Frame

  • I printed out the Nurse’s Bag Ten Frame  activity and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then she would tell me what the number is on the nurse’s bag. Then she counted out the correct number of tools to add to the ten frame.

  • I made a Color House Mouse game out of felt. I hide the mouse behind a house and she flips over each colored house until she can find the house mouse. Then she got a turn to hide the mouse for me.

Field Mouse Shapes

  • I printed out the  Field Mouse Shape game and then cut the pieces and laminated them. Then she reviewed her shapes as she matched up the bees with the honeycomb.
