My granddaughter is 3 years old and loves to dress up as a princess. This month we chose Pocahontas from Disney’s Pocahontas because I think of corn and sunflowers in the fall. Also, her dress is brown like the November fall leaves.
Princess Pocahontas is an adventurous, bold, respectful, generous, daring 18 year old girl from Powhatan tribe’s territory in Tsenacommacah, Virginia. Her sidekick is Meeko the raccoon.
Pocahontas quote: “My dream is pointing me down another path.”
Jeremiah 31:3 states, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
Since we have taking Disney Princess Photos of her since she has been born, we decided to have a Princess party this year.
Princess Invitation
I hung up all of her princess dresses on a line and then put a galvanized tub in front. Then she dressed in her Ariel outfit and sat in the tub for the picture. Then I added the party information to the picture and gave it to her friends.
Princess Dress
We had part of her party at the local splash pad, so she just wore her swimsuit. At home she wore her outerspace dress that she found a a local resale shop and just HAD TO HAVE! I did get this “My Favorite Princess Calls Me Dad” shirt for her dad to wear.
Princess Decorations
Princess Pom Poms
I printed out 8×10 pictures of the princesses and found matching color of tulle and ribbons. I used 8 feet of tulle and then folded it into 3 foot sections. Then I used the ribbon to tie in the middle and cut the folded ends to be open. I laminated the princess pictures and punched a hole at her waist. Then pushed half of the tulle dress through. I spread the tulle starting at the bottom layer and then used glue dots to hold the dress tightly against the laminate. Then I used the ribbon that was tided around the middle to tie a bow and used another glue dot to hold it in place too. I used fishing line to hang them.
I made 12 Disney princesses; Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Belle, Elsa, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Tiana, Mulan, Moana, and Ariel.
At the splash pad we hung them on the fence between the banner pieces, I was very happy with how they turned out.
Photo Banner
Since she has dressed up as a Disney princess every month for 5 years, I just printed out a 5×7 from each photo session. I folded the top half of the black cardstock to form 8.5×8.5 square. I used double sided tape to attach the photos to white cardstock and then to the black cardstock . I attached a thick ribbon behind the folded cardstock and used glue dots to hold it in place. Then I attached large safety pins to each end of the ribbon.
We attached them to the fencing with the safety pins.
I love making theme foods for my family. I make cupcakes for each princess and I also made another dinner food for each princess; including entrees, sides, drinks, and desserts.
Princess Cupcakes
I made 2 boxes of chocolate cake mixes and 2 boxes of vanilla cake mixes, then I baked them in colored baking cups.
Here is my buttercream recpie:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup Crisco
4 cups powdered sugar (2 lbs)
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon milk (if thick)
Directions:
Cream together the butter and Crisco with a mixer.
Slowly add in 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time.
Add the vanilla, if it seems too thick you can add a bit of milk.
I used food coloring to make the different colors of icing for each princess, then I used the Wilton 2D tip to make the ruffle looking dresses for them.
I printed out smaller versions of the princesses and attached toothpicks to them. I stuck these into the cupcakes to look like princess dresses.
Drain and add a jar of alfredo sauce. I add some water the the jar and shake it to get more of the sauce out of the jar. (We have tried many of the jar alfredo sauces and the Bertolii is my family’s favorite.)

My beautiful daughter has dressed up as a Disney princess every month for 5 years. When I was pregnant with her, I strategically decided which princess I would photograph each month for the next 5 years. I also started collecting second hand props.
Every August 17, she dressed as Sleeping Beauty (2020-2024).
Every September 17, she dressed as Snow White (2020-2024).
Every October 17, she dressed as Cinderella (2020-2024).
Every November 17, she dressed as Pocahontas (2020-2024).
Every December 17, she dressed as Belle (2020-2024).
Every January 17, she dressed as Elsa (2021-2025).
Every February 17, she dressed as Rapunzel (2021-2025).
Every March 17, she dressed as Jasmine (2021-2025).
The Pocahontas Disney movie is one of my recent favorites, since I have started reading about the history of the United States. We love playing in the dvd player in the car every November to prepare her for her Pocahontas photoshoot!
Pocahontas is a respectful of nature and people. She is always outside with the river or mountains or cornfields. She spends time with her Grandmother Willow and the animals that live with her. Pocahontas tries to teach her new friend how to respect nature as well.
Storm loves nature as well. At school they call her “The Flower Hunter”. She can find wild flowers no matter what season. She also loves being outside and learning about animals too.
We went to a local park to take her Pocahontas photos this year. She wore her beautiful long hair down, to flow in the wind! She also had on a turquoise necklace that I had found at a consignment shop, and her turquoise earrings that we bought last year. She wore her Pocahontas dress that we bought last year after Halloween. I had her wear black leggings since it was colder this time of year than it has in the past. Last, she wore her golden sandals.
Amos 4:13 He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness
Storm has dressed as Pocahontas on November 17 every year of her short life!

Pocahontas is the only Disney princess based on a real person. I love this story; even though it isn’t historically accurate, it is still a fun way to introduce young children to a real princess. The animals made a fun addition as well.
Pocahontas means “Little Mischief”, which fits with her playful and adventurous self. She respects nature and seeks peace for her people. She teaches John Smith about respecting nature and so it can take care for humans as well. And she also tells her father, the chief, that they can live in peace with the Europeans.
Storm is definitely mischievous as well, she also loves to adventure outdoors too. She plays outside as much as possible and is always bringing me nature treasures that she finds.
I found this Pocahontas dress at a local resale store after Halloween. I was so excited, it was just in time for her pictures. She wore her brown sandals. I just combed her hair straight after her bath and parted it on the side. She also has these turquoise earrings to wear. We also used fabric sunflowers in these photos, and shot them in our front yard.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

We had been watching Disney Pocahontas this fall so she was excited to she herself as the “Pretty Princess”.
Pocahontas loves to explore the outdoors and nature. She’s an adventurous and curious girl who is looking for the right path to follow. She is wise enough to seek the advice of her elder grandmother tree, and stands up for what is right even if it goes against the norm.
Ever since she could walk, Storm also loves being outdoors. She loves to pick flowers and help me in the garden. We will always teach her to follow the ways of the Lord even though most people will disagree with it.
I found this Pocahontas dress at a local resale store after Halloween. I was so excited, it was just in time for her pictures. I just combed her hair straight after her bath and parted it on the side. She also has these turquoise earrings to wear. I placed my blue sheet for the background with Christmas lights behind it to look like a water fall. I just crumpled brown packing paper to place on either side of the waterfall and a brown sheet on the ground. We also used fabric leaves these photos.
Deuteronomy 31:8 “It is the LORD who goes before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed”.
Below she is Pocahontas 1 year apart in each photo…

Disney’s Pocahontas is a great movie to introduce this real life princess (daughter of the chief). Pocahontas’s dream is to have the courage to walk in another’s footsteps, and she has a cry for peace to stop a war. Of course every Disney princess has a sidekick, and Meeko is such a goofy one.
Princess Pocahontas is such a respectful, daring and bold girl.
I like to sing positive song to her, I sing to her is to the tune of “Mary had a Little Lamb”…
“Storm is a bold girl Bold girl, bold girl Storm is a bold girl She’s my big bold girl”
We went to a local university park on this beautifully warm November day. I brought this fabric sunflower for her to hold.
She wore a super cute fringe romper that I found on Amazon. I added her tan bow for her belt, I just put the bow in the back. Then I found this turquoise necklace that a thrift store and got these tiny turquoise earrings on Amazon. I just parted her hair and put is little braid hanging down.
1 Peter 2:17 “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor..”

I chose Disney’s Pocahontas for the November princess since she’s always got leaves blowing around her. I think it would be fun for future Pocahontas pictures.
I tried to fashion a Pocahontas costume from items that she already had. I did find a necklace at the thrift store.
